As Marc S. wrote, so much of how you choose to work with music software depends on where you want to end up. It also depends on your own learning style and preferences.

We at Dancing Dots published the world’s first braille music translator software over 25 years ago. The GOODFEEL suite has been on the market since 1997 and has had many improvements over the years. We were the first to developed the talking braille score feature and a multimedia environment for presenting score information simultaneously in print, braille, spoken word and musical cues. You can produce both print and braille scores using the accessible Lime notation editor component of the suite.

All new customers receive a one-on-one orientation session to get you up and running quickly. New customers also receive free technical support by phone for the first 90 days and preferential email support.

For all users and anyone who is simply interested to know more, we maintain a dedicated online listserv that connects you to a global community of subscribers who often answer queries before anyone at Dancing Dots has a chance to respond. We have a growing number of how-to videos on our DancingDotsAccess YouTube channel.

When we started out over 30 years ago, there simply were no options for automated braille music production and accessibility to scores. Today, blind musicians like me have some new options. Many sighted and blind musicians continue to find the GOODFEEL suite to be their preferred option. If you would like to try it at no cost, please send an email request to me using my info at DancingDots.com<mailto:info at DancingDots.com> address.

Hello! I'm not sure if you missed my previous message - you might want to hunt back a couple of hours ago for it. But in short, yes, it's free, and it works with all popular screen readers on all major operating systems - NVDA, JAWS, or Narrator on Windows; VoiceOver on macOS; Orca on Linux. It's meant for creating music in standard notation - for sighted musicians to read. But it can export MusicXMNL for use with converters like BrailleMUSE, and it even has a limited built-in Braille export.

When it comes to creating standard notation, it s actually on of the best programs there is for this, despite being free. It's also one fo the most accessible of all standard music notation programs. We have many blind users of MuseScore, and we're constantly incorporating their feedback to better the program.

But again, if your main focus is Braille, you would almost certainly be better off with a program dedicated to that, like GOODFEEL.

Has anyone had the chance to try out Muse Score with a screen reader? What exactly does Muse Score do? What do people on this list think of it? I presume it’s free?

Thanks!
