There are more comprehensive resource lists out there than the ones people
have talked about so far. The one I have been working on for many years was
recently posted on the web site of Vision Through Music,
www.visionthroughmusic.org <http://www.visionthroughmusic.org> .
Once you get onto the site, search either for the link labeled "Student
Portal," or "I am an experienced teacher of the blind or partially sighted."
The list itself is called "Vision through Music Resources." Note that it is
a .pdf file. Screen reader users will want to download this file, especially
when Using Microsoft Edge. Go into Edge's context menu and "save" the file.
The downloaded file will allow you to use your screen reader's commands to
skip by headings. For whatever reason, heading navigation doesn't work
correctly when reading the file from the web page.
I make no claims that this list is totally up-to-date. It's also directed
principally to users in the United States. I have been planning to include a
link to the ABC site once it's more useful in the U.S. From what Jeanie
said, it sounds like I need to take another look at the SAO applications.
There are also new software offerings and services. The list will be updated
as time permits. I invite people on this list to let me know of anything you
think should be included. Of course, we reserve the right to decide which
ones meet our guidelines.
Mention has been made of the Vision Through Music site before. It is a
project of the Children's Eye Foundation of AAPOS. Although the site is
meant as a service to connect children and students with experienced
teachers, the resources, videos, and articles are useful to anyone. And
while I'm at it, I can extend another invitation to anyone on the list who
is looking for teaching opportunities to register as a teacher. This could
bring you students to work with, either in-person or online.
