I’m going to check them out again and ask if they’d transmit BRF files. Thanks for the great tip! It’s much better than setting an alarm to wake up at 3 AM to place an overseas phone call!

You can search the rnib library catalogue to see what they have without being a member. Like many of these libraries the search doesn’t seem to be very good so I just did a very broad search such as piano and worked my way through the lot.

I got in touch with their music advisory service mas at rnib.org.uk and they were happy to e-mail me brf files of various titles. I was under the impression that they only charge for producing hard copy Braille. Whether they were able to do this because they knew I was a member of Blind Low vision New Zealand which is a member of the treaty I’m not sure, but they just sent me the files direct.

Hi,

I am Stephanie Pieck in the United States. You might be able to buy books from the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB) in England. They don’t have the Piano Adventures series, but their Piano Time series (put out by Oxford University Press) is quite good, especially for younger students. The books are available in print and widely used in England. The early books (before Book 1) are “Fun for Ten Fingers” and “Tunes for Ten Fingers” and “More Tunes for Ten Fingers.” There are brief descriptions in the braille that can be helpful. Some of the activities that are too visual aren’t transcribed, but there is a note on those pages explaining this, and it is not enough to take away from the book as a whole.

Try contacting RNIB by e-mail; I think you can place international orders by calling them, although I haven’t done so in quite a while.

Good luck!

Stephanie
