Dear Resourceful Parent,
Thank you for everything that you are doing to help your son so that he can
fully develop his talents as he fully participates in musical activities
with his peers. You are an exceptionally resourceful and dedicated parent,
deserving of the highest commendation.
As instructor of the braille music transcription course for the Library of
Congress and as a reader and user of braille music for myself, I second Tina
Davidson's recommendation regarding the new BANA music code. The chapter on
percussion will answer many of your questions. Tina and I and other MENVI
members stand ready to help you with questions that are not addressed in the
code. In any event, keep up your great work--and tell your son that we are
cheering for him, too!
Cordially,
Karen Gearreald

Subject: [Menvi-discuss] Looking for source to learn transcription for
percussion music
I have a 15 year old son that has been playing trumpet. I took the Hadley
Braille Music Basics course to be able to assist him. Now he is going to be
playing percussion. Hadley does not offer any course currently that focuses
on percussion transcription. I am in search of a resource that will allow
me to learn the transcription guidelines for percussion music. Does anyone
have experience, advice, or a recommended resource? Thanks in advance!
