Hi Lauren,
The new BANA Braille Music Code 2015 has an entire chapter on percussion.
You can download the PDF of the entire code at the BANA website - for free
http://www.brailleauthority.org/music/music.html

This will give you the basic codes for percussion and if you follow the
code, your son will be able to read other braille music that you might find
in the library at NLS. The transcription of a single drum or pitched
percussion instrument is relatively easy and logical and you can use the
note C for all the music. If there are several drums and/or cymbals, you
will use a bar-over-bar score format and show each instrument on a separate
line.

I think it's wonderful that you have learned to transcribe braille music for
your son! If you have more questions about transcribing percussion, just

I have a 15 year old son that has been playing trumpet.  I took the Hadley
Braille Music Basics course to be able to assist him.  Now he is going to be
playing percussion.  Hadley does not offer any course currently that focuses
on percussion transcription.  I am in search of a resource that will allow
me to learn the transcription guidelines for percussion music.  Does anyone
have experience, advice, or a recommended resource?  Thanks in advance!
