Hi Kaiti:

Now your getting into the fun classes of music. Conducting trains you to
be a communicator of music to your performers. As a communicator, you need
to be able to show control of the ensemble as well as your interpretation
of the music. In controlling the ensemble, you need to be able to indicate
start/stops of the ensemble, and basic skills related to be a time keeper
of the music (beat patterns, tempo). Under interpretation, you indicate
dynamic contrasts, articulation, fermatas and special effects. Generally,
you will practice analyzing a score as part of your preparation, and
conduct music from a recording (live is optional or rare). If you get a
live ensemble, concentrate on starting/stopping, unison performances and
have fun.
