[Menvi-discuss] dealing with blindness in bios and other career information

Hello Julie,
When applying for jobs, I include my blindness as part of my covering
letter to go with my CV. I always put it into a sentence which is a
selling point. For example, something along the lines of:

I have attached, as requested, a sample of my voicereel which includes
examples from my commercial reads, audiobook narrations, cartoon and
radio showreels. Being a blind person has greatly contributed to my
acceptional ability to imitate people and you will hear that I have a
wide range of voices, accents and characters.

If you're going to disclose, sell it! If I can't sell it, I don't say
it until it looks like I'll get the job. This when I'm applying for a
"normal" job. Most of the time I'm hired as a Soprano Singer and the
fact that I'm a blind person is on my website, the radio station where
I work, my voiceover agent...

I hope this helps you.
Very best wishes,
Sandra.
