[Menvi-discuss] Strategies for conducting

Hi all,

I am planning on enrolling in a fundamentals of conducting course for
the fall semester, and am trying to be proactive in figuring out what
I will need to be successful in this course. This course is taught by
2 professors-one is a choral director at my university, and the other
is the directore of the symphonic wind ensemble of which I am a
member. I started talking with my director about conducting last
week, and he didn't seem very concerned about my ability to
participate in the class. He said the textbook will be easy to get,
as it is fairly small, and the diagrams may not need to even be
produced in a tactile format so long as we set aside time for me to be
physically shown the conducting patterns.

I don't think this course is very intense, and am trying to get ahold
of someone who took the course last semester to see how much scores
were used, but I'm wondering if there any general tips I can get, or
if anyone may have ideas for things I should ask about that I have not
thought of myself. Any guidance would be appreciated.
