Adding to that, it can also save you money if the teacher knows your
transportation system in advance.  My teacher in high school charged
me if she came to a lesson and I arrived late/didn't make it in time
for the lesson, or if I canceled a lesson giving her less than 24
hours notice, which usually really meant as long as I called her by
7:00 the night before even though our lesson was at 4:00, and although
that was her standard for all her students some teachers will work
with you on that as long as you give them sufficient notice.  i don't
think it's too unreasonable of a question.
