Dear Readers,
I wanted to let you know about an instrument tuner app for Android
which is very accessible. It's called GStrings.
A couple of years ago I went on a search. I found one which played the
note selected. This worked like a pitchpipe. I wrote to the developer
to thank him, and also to ask whether he could include some method for
blind musicians to use the auto tuning features.
A few weeks later, he released an update which does just that.
When one turns the feature on in the menue, and taps the "tune auto"
button, the app detects which note you are playing, and, using a
system of pitches, tells you if you are sharp or flat. An asending
double beep means you are flat, and descending double beep means you
are sharp. A double beep on the note means you are on pitch.
It works pretty well!
It also offers the pitch pipe type tuner.
It offers features dedic ated to tuning particular instruments, from
classical strings to ukulele.
There are both a free and paid version. It can be sensitive which
means one should use it in a quiet environment.
Sincerely,
Rusty
