[Menvi-discuss] Going to Music College, Getting in

Hello,
I'm trying to figure out what else I can do to up my chances on getting into
UOP.
I visited in November with an alumni who recommended me to her old teachers
and friends who were now teaching there, I then visited again in January
with my mom. At the January visit I let my unbridled passion show to the
voice teacher that gave me a lesson. After that I emailed everyone thanking
them and then I got on the phone and talked to the vocal director asking her
about her program while trying not to pass out with excitement. I then went
to the audition and fumbled up a little because I had some pretty bad music
problems, but everyone at the audition knew me by name. The director of the
voice faculty also commented how my questions were very well thought out and
they were very impressive. After the audition I apologized to the pianist
about my unprofessional music and thanked everyone at the audition for
letting me audition for them. I'm planning on attending the Opera
performance of Magic Flute they are having in March, but I'm not sure if
there is anything else I can do.
Perhaps send the director of voice an article that was written in the news
paper about my voice last December, or do you all think I've done enough and
I should just sit fretting and waiting for the next email from them? I
really LOVE the school there and the teachers are super nice... The
acceptance numbers are 45 applicants, 11 excepted for transfer students. In
the email back I received from the director of voice after the audition she
said: "
Thank you so much for your thoughtful message. It was a pleasure to hear
you yesterday and to finally meet you in person! You have a beautiful voice
and you presented yourself very well!"
But she also mentioned: "
Professor Phillips will no doubt be in touch with you also since you had a
private lesson with him."
And he hasn't yet... :(
So any suggestions would be great!
Thank you,
Brandon Keith Biggs

Brandon, you have lots of self-confidence and it will certainly serve you in
good stead. Keep believing in yourself and fight for yourself. You'll do
well. You remind me of Winy Kwany. Have you followed her story? She lives
in Indonesia and all of her teachers keep telling her she cannot do it but
she will not listen and is DOING IT. She believes in herself and will
succeed. And so will you.

But then you audition somewhere and find out there are dozens of kids as
good or better than you. But, just remember that there will always be
someone better, and try not to worry about it. All you can do is your best.
