To allow your fingers to have natural curve, first stand up, and relax
your shoulders, arms, and hands and hang both hands by your side.
Basically, you stand completely relaxed. The fingers at this position make
natural curve, no tension, no stretching, that's the shape you want when you
play piano. In other words, your entire body needs to be relaxed when you
play. To achieve the relaxation while you perform might not come easily,
but relaxed hand and body positions also allow you to play smoother and
better tone. Don't just focus on your fingers or hands. Be aware with your
entire body, including your head, neck, back, etc... Alexander or Taubman
instructors can also help you if you really need to know about relaxing and
breathing easily when you play.

Subject: [Menvi-discuss] piano technique: curving your fingers
Hello,
I'm taking a principles of Music Making class. My instructor has
been trying to get me to curve my fingers when I play the piano?
Does anyone have any images or exercises that help with curving
of the fingers?
Thank you,
