Hi,

Yes, most of the first editions were transcribed by CNIB and NLS have done second edition of the main levels with their associated sight-reading, technique, theory, etc.  The first level of the accelerated and Adult piano are also there.  All of these are on ABC and so your library should be able to get them for you.  No one has yet transcribed the My First Piano Adventures Books A B C, so I am working on those.  Likewise non of the supplementary materials in the associated PlayTime, ShowTime, ChordTime or new Adult books for popular, Hits or Classics have been transcribed.  So I have just completed ChordTime popular.  The books I finish are being proofed and corrected by one of our transcribers at Blind Low Vision NZ and so I am hoping to get them added to our library and then shared with ABC, a slow process though.

Braille scores, like print scores, have a range of quality. Most of the NLS collection is of high quality, and if the piece you are looking for is available in more than one transcription, it may be helpful to have both to compare. As in print music, transcribers may have different ways of presenting the same material. Not so much notes/rhythms/nuances, but if your music has elements for teaching like graphic representations of keyboards etc. In my opinion, the best transcriptions are those that convey the important information in a way that's simple for a reader to grasp, especially if they are using the book to learn rather than as a teacher or performer. If there are very visual aspects of the presentation that might be important for blind readers to know, these can be described in transcriber's notes. I've used several popular piano methods where this technique was employed. The result is a book where the fluid reading of text and music is preserved, but key points about what a sighted student will be seeing are included in a separate, confined area that a blind teacher can quickly refer to. If the books are used frequently, a teacher may not even need to read those transcriber's notes every time they're teaching.

Re Golden Chord: They are no longer actively transcribing, and if one wants to purchase anything from their back catalog, that request goes through what seems to be a third-party braille production company. They do have some unusual titles, though.

I don't know if Prima Vista is still active, either. They did some student jazz piano books that made their way into the NLS collection, but I haven't been able to find Prima Vista online.
