I think I might have done some studies from th first Getchell book. I’ll have to look them up. If memory serves me correctly the one study in G Major (in trumpet pitch) was particularly pleasing to me. How long have you been playing, just out of curiosity?

Hi, Jeanne!

Thanks to you and others who’ve responded!

Right now, I’m transcribing exercises from Robert Getchell’s First Book of Practical Studies for Coronet and Trumpet. Earlier on, I found some of the exercises played on YouTube, However, they are not all there. So, I’ve been recording my teacher play the ones I need. It’s been very good practice for me to transcribe them and refer to the transcription instead of the recording.

Hi, Jason,

In an instance when there are multiple sixteenth notes, what you d is put a double dots 2-3 before the first group of four sixteenth notes, then a single dots 2-3 for the last group. It’s the same thing with triplets. You would continue to use dots 3-6 for the first sixteenth in the group with the rest being the notes without 3-6, in other words, what look like eighth notes. By the way, just out of curiosity, I used to play trumpet. What are you brailling?

Hi, everyone.

This question may have been asked before and I apologize if this is the case. <smile>

While transcribing some trumpet exercises for myself, I have started dealing with many sixteenth notes. I understand I can group them together in a beat such that only the first sixteenth note contains dots 3 & 6 and the others don’t need that, as long as there are no eighth notes that immediately follow them. However, today, I found multiple beats containing sixteenth notes, and I think one case where the entire measure contained only sixteenth notes. In this case, is it proper to use dots 3-6 for the first sixteenth note of each measure or should I be using dots 3-6 for each beat of the measure? I’m thinking maybe the latter as it makes things a little easier to read by recognizing each beat, but wanted to get clarification.

Thanks so much!

Best regards,
