Thanks for sharing, Miso.  Maybe because of Covid but the year 2017 seems to have occurred much longer ago than seven years!

 

I appreciate your post and your good memories of Grant.  I hope that you get to play your flute a bit from time to time.  I still remember your cool rendition of Take Five. 😊

Hello,

I can hardly keep up with this listserv due to demanding schedule that often keeps me away from making music as often as I would like… but I feel compelled to respond…

I was one of fortunate few who was at the 2017 summer music camp that Bill mentioned and we stayed in touch thereafter for some time until I moved away from California. 

Although my communication and interaction with Grant was for just about a year, he is someone I think about and will continue to think about often. He was an excellent teacher and person to look up to.

So sad to read about his passing…

 

May he rest in peace and music.

Thank you, Patrick.  I couldn’t agree more.

 

I was privileged to enjoy Grant’s company at a number of conferences over the years.  One of the fun facts about Grant was that he roasted his own coffee beans and so supplied me with an excellent cup of coffee from time to time when we were together.  

 

At my request, back In 2017, Grant came up to coach some of the pianists at our Summer Music Academy program at the Enchanted Hills Camp.  He was an inciteful teacher who could get his point across to a student with wit and good humor.  He led a couple of listening session for our campers making many historical connections between contemporary pop and R&B music with American popular song and jazz going back over a century. 

 

He could always make me laugh.  I will miss him too.  May he rest in peace.

I am SO very sorry for your loss! I only knew Grant from some conversations at conferences but I know you were close. He was a remarkable man and his passing is a great loss to the entire music and braille community.
