Yes, I too am loving using MuseScore.

Over the past few weeks I have scanned about 10 books of junior level Christmas music into a music OCR and imported into MuseScore.

As expected, it does miss fingering, some repeats and a few note or rhythm glitches here and there.

But in general I have instant access to most of the music in a basic form that was in those books.

I am now paying someone to proof read over these and add in the missing elements.  And the important fact here is that he is someone with reasonably basic music skills and no Braille skills, but this is sufficient to assist.

I can then run the whole lot through Sao Mai and tidy up my own transcriptions referring back to the MuseScore file as needed.

I can also open the MuseScore files to show students or to quickly find an answer to something where my Braille reading is a bit slow and of course hear the score, so the combo is just amazing.

It will probably take several years for me to work through all the books in my studio, I’m going to be busy.

 

So, yes, thanks to Marc and all the development team at MuseScore, especially those who work in the accessibility area, but as Ella said to all who have brought this up to the level where it is now a very competitive tool in the music notation space that I can confidently recommend to my students also.

 

Louise, if you have any questions regarding signs, what to use where or how to do it do feel free to ask either on list or ask me off list, or on the Mastering MuseScore community accessibility page.  And do try using the Sao Mai Braile software to convert your xml if you haven’t already, it is much much better than the one built into MuseScore currently for Braille conversion and especially for a beginner will give you a much easier format and more predictable outcome to make sense of.

Hello everyone, I am also really grateful for everyone who has put in the work to make MuseScore not only a fully accessible notation program for screen reader users, but a ton of work has gone into improving the program as a whole in the past few years especially. I have not composed music much recently, but when I do find the drive to write more music, MuseScore will be a huge asset. Being able to read through a score via audio description of the elements, will also being able to export in a format that can easily be converted to braille, is also a huge blessing.

put in to MuseScore. And, please extend the gratitude to the rest of the 
contributing developers of this awesome tool.
