Hi Nafset,
I have never heard of Braille music being able to be done in a text file.
I guess in theory if all the characters are there then maybe it can be opened in something like Duxbury with translation turned off and using computer Braille so it just displays those characters and maybe it might show the right thing, maybe someone else knows?
Have you considered getting back in touch with them and asking them if they have a brf or if they have sent you the wrong file?
Jeanie

Subject: [Menvi-discuss] German Braille music issue
Dear MENVI members,
I faced a strange issue. I can’t emboss the Braille scores for Fanny Hensel Mendelssohn’s Lieder produced in Germany. DZB Lesen emailed me Braille music in TXT format but it turned out to be unreadable. Even conversion to BRF format did not yield any result. Still I get a set of unreadable signs. Some German words can be identified (though with weird signs in them), but there’s not a single musical sign to be detected. To be honest, I can’t even understand what the problem is. I assume it has something to do with the coding but I am not sure how to deal with it.
Is there any solution to this issue? I assume Goodfeel might have been helpful but I don’t have one. Is there any open access soft I might try?
Many thanks for your ideas and suggestions.
Best regards,
Nafset
