Just reposting the below to the group as it looks like for some reason when I hit reply it went to Marc only.

Thanks Marc,

That sounds really good and it sounds like there is no point reinventing the wheel when there is already a suitable place.

I found the group now, not sure what happened the first time, I was searching in the groups search, but some buttons on the site aren’t activating properly in browse mode or with enter so it is possible I hadn’t actually activated my search and was still just seeing the previous page of general groups.

If anyone else wants to check out this the account with sheet music is at:

https://musescore.com/openscore-braille.

And you can join the discussion group at:

https://musescore.com/groups/openscore-braille

Just be aware that when you click the join button a pop up comes up right at the bottom of the browser page, same as when you download, and you have to press enter on it to open it, very weird and usually seems like the button is just doing nothing as focus does not jump to it.

I love the suggestion on this group that people can request scores they are needing to be transcribed and we can hopefully have some volunteer transcribers join also. So I am definitely up for lots of promoting of this site. The wording would clearly need some updating if it is to include any of the teaching or more amateur scores I mentioned earlier as it does currently state public domain and infers classical scores. But if this can be opened up then I think it will be great and I certainly have quite a collection to add and more being made every day.

Is it possible to add scores now or will this have to wait till Marc or someone else takes it over? What is the process of adding scores to such a group, do I add them to my own account and post a link, or do they get uploaded direct to the Open Braille account?

Jeanie

OpenScore in general as originally set up was indeed for classical music, but there is no reason the special braille sub-project would need to be limited to just classical. It also wouldn’t necessarily have to be public domain - it would just need to be music that MuseScore.com has rights to. They have rights to a *ton* of music already, and more is added constantly. The Hal Leonard deal looks to be world-changing as far as that goes.

.Whether or not we use this group, we certainly have to obey the law, so that restriction would exist regardless of where the results are hosted. MuseScore.com has lawyers that are very experienced in negotiating these sort of license agreements, so if there are particular publishers who works are not yet approved, definitely contact the publisher and/or the MuseScore.com team to request they work something out. It would be *way* easier than any of us attempting to negotiate with the publishers directly. If/when this initiative gets underway, I can also help with making those sorts of contacts.

I think when you did your search for “braille”, it was probably a general sheet music search and not a search for groups specifically. When I do a group search (on the page v, using the groups search box and not the general sheet music search box), the group comes up immediately as the only search result.

Marc
