Hi,
I am a college music major who uses Goodfeel on a regular basis. My
university music department did as your son's school has done, and
purchased Goodfeel along with an embosser to provide music for me
in-house. What they did was hire a student to act as the transcriber,
using a combination of Finale and Lime (Goodfeel's music editor) to
get the job done. Since one does not necessarily need to know how to
read braille music in order to create accessible versions using
Goodfeel, this has worked out quite well. The student transcriber who
I work with has been responsible for all the music examples in my
theory and sight singing books and the brailled portions of all my
tests, as well as some of my music for various ensembles.
Obviously a high school would not be able to hire a student, but it
could potentially be a good way for someone who is in the choir to get
volunteer hours or something. Ideally it would be someone who sings
the same part so they would already be familiar with it. This student
could scan the music, check it for errors against a printed copy and
make corrections as needed, then send a .gf file to the VI department.
The .GF file is basically a brf file with a different extension, so
it can be opened in Duxberry and embossed from there.
I hope this helps. If you have any questions feel free to email me.
