Hello,
It isn't that important for singers to be able to do the lip trill. You can 
use the rolled r or possibly a zzz sound if the other two sounds can't be 
used. The rolled R is much much more important to be able to do than the lip 
trill, so he should be focusing on that if you don't get it after a couple 
minutes.

Actually, I'm trying to learn how to do the lip buzz for singing.
It's not going so well.  He can get the right shape from me but I
just can't get a sound out.
