if the player supports it, Apple Lossless (ALAC) or Free Lossless 
Audio Codec (FLAC) formats are great, because they take up about 
half the size of uncompressed CD audio, but with no audio taken 
away during encoding. if you convert one of those two formats back 
to wav and compare it to the original, they are byte for byte 
identical.
