[Menvi-discuss] Piano Practicing Issues

Timothy Jones casioplayer at bellsouth.net

Dear Menvi:

I'm sure I'm not the first one to ask this question. I'm learning the first movement of the Pathetique by Beethoven, and was informed by my piano teacher that I'm "NOT ROTATING" my wrist when playing the passage where the left hand is supposed to sound like a rumble.

Of course, due to the fact that I can't see, I'm unable to tell whether I'm doing it or not. My piano teacher tried to correct this problem by having me place my hand over hers to see how it's done, but when I tried to do it, I had no success at all.

Does anyone have some suggestive cures to fix this problem? She told me if I don't correct it, I'll "be so tight and tense" that I'll feel like my arm is going to fall off by the time I finish the piece.

Could I ask you to send your reply to my piano teacher as well? Her name is Ms. Patti Bennett, you can reach her at the following email address:
musicbypatti at charter.net.

Thanks for setting up this site. It's very helpful for me to chat with other blind musicians.

HOPE YOU ALL HAVE A HAPPY NEW YEAR!!

Sincerely,

Timothy Jones

Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.

Kelsey,

I don't exactly know what specific type of sheet music you're looking
for, but as long as it's not pop or something relatively recent you
could try the international music score library project, (IMSLP).
They're really good for finding standard repertoire, and I use them
for just about everything to avoid buying music for private lessons.
The URL is below. Hope it helps.

Oh sorry, I forgot to mention how it works so here's an adendum to my
last message.

All music on imslp is in the public domain. Search for what you're
looking for, and when you find it just click to open it. A PDF will
show up on your screen and from there in Adobe you can save the file
or print off coppies.
