This is a music store here. I didn't know others would do that. How
cheap! Great idea about the sponge.

I think a shoulder rest being included depends on the rental company. The
two music stores in my area do not include one. I have my beginning
students use a sponge and a rubber band to hold it on. I know adults who use
this system as well.

They know good and well it should be included! It comes with the violin
here. There's a pocket in the case for it.

I asked them at the counter what was included. They said if i wanted a
shoulder rest i could bye one, but they don't include it in the rental.
Probably not enough supply to rent it.
I got rosin.

Thanks.

I would think the shoulder rest is included in the rental. It was when I
rented one. If it wasn't, it should have been. Go back and tell them
they forgot to put one in the case. Also in the case should be rosin
for the
bow.

Hi List.
I've started to pick up some violin again after some years.
I've rented a violin, and did a course, learning songs by ear.
I've searched online and Youtube how to add vibrato. But it's all visual!
Can someone explain to me, maybe off-list how exactly to do it, wrist
movements, etc?
Also, if someone has suggestions and tips how to hold the violin without
using a shoulder rest. I didn't get a shoulder rest when i rented it.
Good or bad, i don't know.
But my left arm gets sore and my hand gets a bit sore too holding it in
that position.
I know i'm not supposed to bend my wrist.
Some tips would be appreciated.
I'm actually a pianist, but wanted to learn to play the violin since
it's such a lovely sound.
At the moment i'm still getting used to placing my fingers on the right
spots, but i'm getting that right now.

Thanks,
Dewald.
