Octave signs tell you where the note is---down low or up high----by giving you braille signs for first octave (low), second octave, third octave, fourth octave (That's where middle C is), and on up. Intervals are a second above or below a note, or a third or a fourth, etc. And the braille symbols are different. Where the note IS has the braille symbol before the note but the intervals follow the named note.
