What might also help, probably more than anything else, is if you can
get the guitar over the Christmas break and play around with it
yourself. You can use google or youtube to look up basic fingerings
for chords like G major, C major, D major, E minor, A minor, etc.
This way you will not only know a few chords before the class and be
ahead of the game, but by teaching yourself these basic chords it will
give you a chance to get comfortable with fingerings.
Also, you might be able to find a few helpful videos on youtube about
other aspects of playing such as strum patterns. These should get you
started. Another good source is Bill Brown's Guitar by Ear for the
Visually Impaired. I believe it might be on ITunes, and he describes
all the fingerings he teaches in tactile terms, telling you what to
feel for rather than flying through the course with visual cues. Hope
