I am a big band junkie. Stan Kenton and Don Ellis are my most favorite. I
know Maynard was third on my list, and Woody Herman as fourth. I also saw
Maynard in the 70s and 80s. His ability to reach the stratosphere is
definitely his legacy. I do not expect anyone else to reach this level of
fame, but wouldn't it be nice to have a big band renaissance again. I know
Wynton Marsailles has the Jazz Orchestra at the Lincoln Center going in the
direction of traditional blues and swing. He reminds me of Dizzy G. in
this direction. Rick
