[Menvi-discuss] singing in opera and following conductor

Exactly! It sounds like half a beat most of the time. It's enough to bring
the prompter into hysterics! :P
I'm sure if a prototype was created, something could be added to let the
singer know different commands.
Perhaps a rod with like a wheel on the end that shoots out and roles down
when the conductor hits a down arrow button for decrescendo and the same rod
could role up to signal a crescendo. Then there could be another button the
cunductor could press to just send a tapping rod out for cut-offs. I am not
sure if there is any way to signal the beat number though.
Anyone else have any siguestions?
Thanks,

Brandon Keith Biggs

That's a great comment regarding time delay between a singer's
position on stage, and the location of the orchestra pit. It's
just a rough estimate, but count on about a one millisecond delay
for each foot of distance. The untrained ear starts noticing a
delay past about 25 or so milliseconds, (Haas effect) so say 25-30
feet. A trained ear would notice a performer seeming to lag behind
the beat before that distance, especially at a faster tempo.
