Bettye's love and wisdom and dedication will continue to inspire all of us
in our work with braille music.  When I met Bettye in person at the NBA
conference in the spring of 2005, she complimented me for insisting that
music braillists should always do everything correctly, from the very
beginning of their training.  When I am tempted to become careless or
discouraged, I am reminded of Bettye's perseverance and kindness.  For
instance, on the basis of a year of painstaking research at the Library of
Congress, she developed the monumental DICTIONARY OF BRAILLE music signs.
Who else could have been so patient and resourceful?  Let us ever follow her
example of compassion and excellence.  We shall sorely miss her.  At the
same time we can rejoice in the knowledge that the sufferings of her final
years are over.

Dear MENVI members:

It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Bettye Krolick last
evening. She is known to most of us as "The Godmother of Braille Music."

More will follow as soon as it becomes available.

The inspiration for your network, and the enormous advances in music braille
and its technology, can be greatly attributed to Bettye and to all of those
whose lives she touched.

As for myself, she was a mentor, and a substantial inspiration for the
methodology and presentation of my courses. She will be missed beyond words.
