Hi, I have not used Lilypond personally, but I agree with Bruce's thoughts. Lilypond is accessible because it is a completely text-based system, but you kinda have to think like a coder, so it is not intuitive. If you want to notate music in notation software, learning something like MuseScore (which is also very accessible) would be far more efficient.

On Tue, Dec 12, 2023 at 8:36 PM Bruce Maguire via Menvi-discuss <menvi-discuss@menvi.org> wrote:

Hello Siddarth

Welcome to the list. I haven't used Lillypond extensively, but I did a bit
of experimenting with it earlier this year as part of my search for an
accessible and accurate way of getting my musical compositions out of my
head and on to the page with a view to sharing them. Because Lillypond is
text-based (a bit like LaTeX in the maths world) it's potentially very
accessible, but you have to be comfortable with thinking symbolically and
applying rules to construct musical notes from their individual elements
(pitch, duration, etc.). One significant limitation with Lillypond is that
you can't export its notation to other formats like MusicXML, unless there
have been recent changes that I'm not aware of. You can, however, print
scores as pdf files, and you can share the notation files that contain the
text with other Lillypond users, but overall it's a fairly closed system.
That might be fine of course, depending on what you want to do with it.

Best wishes
Bruce
Hello friends,
I am Siddharth Kumar Keshri from India. I like to play flute and keyboard.
Friends, I have a question regarding Lilypond music software. Does anyone
from this list use it? If yes, then kindly share your experience regarding
its accessibility. I am asking this question, because on their website
called lilypond.org, they have mentioned, that some Visually Impaired people
also use this software; as it is a text based application.
With warm regards
