Kelle':

I am not visually impaired but have worked with my V.I. students using
Sibelius. Sibelius and PhotoScore Ultimate are on the high end of
music software. I use Windows version, but I have learned to use the
keyboard and keypad for entering and editing music notation on the
score sheet. Audio sounds do occur with entering of pitch names.
Entering accidentals or changing rhythm values may not produce sounds
when entering but if you move away from the note and return to the
note the change will be noted.

PhotoScore will be used for scanning documents. The score can be
edited or read and then transferred into Sibelius. For the V.I.
student, any type of scanning software can produce flaws in the score.
For PhotoScore, I have found that scores with large rhythmic patterns
or text will cause the largest amounts of flaws. Often it is better
to enter notation into Sibelius using manual keys or midi keyboard.

When using any type of software, I will always encourage a student to
save the document after a few minutes of work to avoid mistakes or
errors from occurring. You should be able to purchase these two items
as a package, student or education rate.

Speech software have been challenging on all music packages due to the
graphics; however, I have heard that the newer version are becoming
more accommodated to programs such as JAWS.

Good luck and have fun.
