I'm a sighted harpist, playing gigs for 30 years.
I started out playing in nursing homes.  It's a fail-safe audience.  You 
can fall right on your face and it's OK.  You can try out new songs and 
practice things  you're not sure of to see where they fall apart.

I did that for quite a few years, and I feel it really helps to have any 
kind of body in the room with you, staring at you and listening, hearing all 
the mistakes.  Even if you're at home and the plumber is there, play for him.

I still make mistakes, but thank God not a lot.  You get more adept at 
covering and learning to go on after you've messed up.
