[Menvi-discuss] SATB Writing?

Yes, Stephanie, I agree with everything you are saying. And to all, even
though I told perhaps too frankly of my experience with the Tonal Harmony
book, I am indeed grateful that people would put in the time and effort to
make materials available to us that are off the normal paths of interest to
a lot of society. I would not have been able to learn and pass on to others
without such helps.

Yeah, wholeheartedly agree--I remember a math textbook that was divided
among somebody who had English as a third and very poor language, and
somebody who sounded like they had just woken up. But even so, I challenge
anybody to read an entire textbook of 500-plus pages, in a subject that
isn't necessarily that interesting to the general population, describe all
the pictures/graphs, play all the examples if it's music, and do it all as a

volunteer! With that in mind, I'll gladly put up with the less-than-ideal
presentation. Besides, when we work with live readers, we have to admit that

not everyone is going to be really good at it.

As for whether the theory book readers are skilled pianists: Not that I can
recall, but they're adequate.
