Hi,
I'm a student of both the Braille Beats and Summer Braille Music
Institute programs and have found both to be very beneficial in
different ways.
I have been going to Braille Beats for a few years and it has been a
fun experience as well as an educational one. In the beginning I
learned a lot of theory and braille music skills I didn't know before,
and as I got older I found I was able to use the instruction at the
program to polish or otherwise hone these skills. Not to mention that
each year is a little different and there is some play intermingled
with the work.
The Summer Braille Music Institute was great because it really
prepared me for my high school theory class as well as the theory
classes I will take in college. I don't know how I would be
participating in my theory class now, or making my own arrangements,
had I not had that training. It was also nice because the braille
music training was specific to the type of music I'd see for my
instrument, and we actually practiced reading out of exercise books
and I think one day we even looked at a Mozart concerto. For any
serious music student I'd highly recommend checking into it. (It was
a lot of fun as well, by the way).
Some of these links have already been posted, but just for convenience:
